President Zuma hails contribution of child star Ricardo

CAPE TOWN, November 26 (ANA) – South African President Jacob Zuma on Thursday praised singer Ricardo Groenewald of “I love you daddy” fame following his death from cancer at the age of 43.

Groenewald died on Wednesday night and Zuma on Thursday conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of “South Africa’s legendary musician and one of the country’s first child stars”.

In a statement, Zuma said: “Mr Groenewald would be remembered for his hit song, ‘I love you daddy’ which was released in 1987, when the singer was only eight years old.

“His family should find solace in the fact that this talented performer warmed many hearts with his soulful music and excelled way beyond his age when he began his musical career. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and all fans of Mr Groenewald.” – African News Agency (ANA)
