President Jacob Zuma has broken his silence on the so-called Guptagate scandal.
In a statement issued on Thursday he condemned the practice of using his name and that of Cabinet Ministers to secure privileges or flout government procedures.
He called on officials entrusted with managing state institutions not to succumb to pressure from name-droppers, urging them to immediately report anyone who behaves in this manner.
Zuma was commenting in the wake of the release of a government report which cleared him and his cabinet of any involvement in authorising the landing of a private plane at Waterkloof airforce base.
The report found that some top officials, who have been suspended, resorted to name dropping to secure authorisation for the Gupta plane.
The report found that the president's name has been used to flout procedures.
