PRETORIA, February 4 (ANA) – The presidency says it is “outraged by utterances” by former public protector Thuli Madonsela on eNCA that she is being “targetted” by President Jacob Zuma on reported deductions from her gratuity after her term in office ended.
According to section 2(2) of the Public Protector Act the remuneration and conditions of service of the public protector are determined by Parliament, the presidency said in a statement on Saturday.
“The president does not play any role when it comes to salary and conditions of service of the public protector. It is unfortunate that adv Madonsela decided to use the president’s name in matters which do not involve him. The abuse of the name of the president in such a matter is preposterous and disappointing,” the statement said.
Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that Madonsela had confirmed to news channel eNCA that she believed Zuma or those sympathetic to him may be the reason that about R470,000 was cut from her gratuity at the end of her term in office.
