A woman was killed when the light motor vehicle she was in was hit by a train in Eduanpark in Polokwane, on Friday morning.
Netcare 911 says the cause of the accident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
However, spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks says common cause information suggests that the vehicle had drawn to a halt on the tracks at a level crossing.
He says the driver alighted before the train struck the car.
Wicks says Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that a woman, thought to be a term mother, had been sitting in the back seat and had been killed on impact.
