Postbank on Thursday said it was working around the clock to address a major system glitch that resulted in thousands of social grant beneficiaries not receiving their monies for September.
Postbank CEO Ntomboxolo Mbengashe, however, said most grant recipients had already received their pay-outs.
She addressed a media briefing on Thursday that was also attended by the minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, and Communications and Digital Technologies minister, Mondli Gungubele.
Mbengashe implored those beneficiaries who were still experiencing problems not to panic.
She said they would get their money, adding “that we can guarantee”.
She said she cannot confirm that such a crisis would not happen again.
“We have a commitment as the executive of the bank to ensure that something like this does not happen again,” said Mbengashe.
“But having said, with my experience in banking having managed IT in so many institutions, things like this do happen. I cannot stand here with an understanding of how technology works and say 100% something like this will never happen again.
“But the only commitment I can make is that we will do everything in our power to make sure something like this never happens again – that is the only promise I can make,” said Mbengashe
