A Gauteng teacher is facing a possible murder charge, following the death of a student he allegedly beat on the head with a belt.
The department of education says Sizwe Kubheka died in hospital last week, after the incident left him deaf and with blood clots coming from his nose.
The student, aged around 16, lived in Palm Springs, south of Johannesburg.
Department spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane says before the boy's death, the parents had laid a charge of attempted murder with police.
She says the alleged beating happened at school.
Sekhonyane says the teacher has been arrested, and taken out of the school environment, adding that the man was later released on bail.
Both the police and education authorities have launched investigations.
