Lonmin Platinum has put unions on notice that it is contemplating restructuring, which could include retrenchments.
This was confirmed by company spokesperson, Barnard Mokwena.
The notice to unions said the number of employees who might be affected was not yet known.
Lonmin currently employs just over 28 000 people.
The company is at the centre of an inquiry into a shooting where 34 people were killed and 78 wounded when the police opened fire on striking miners on August 16th.
