A Western Cape policeman is due to appear in court in Stellenbosch on Monday for the alleged murder of his wife.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate said the Warrant Officer who is attached to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), or Hawks, was arrested over the weekend.
IPID spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, said it is alleged that the police officer had an argument with his wife at their home on Saturday, on Thubelitsha street, Khayamnandi, in Stellenbosch.
"The 41-year-old wife ran out of the house but the police officer allegedly followed her and fired several shots.
"The wife ran into the neighbour's house but the police officer allegedly followed her inside the house, and fired several shots again, in full view of the residents in the house.
"The victim succumbed to her injuries and she was declared dead by medical personnel," Shuping said.
The incident was reported to IPID and the police officer was arrested on a charge of murder.
