Police have warned the public about stokvels, after two people were killed in incidents involving the rotating credit societies.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela, says the members of a stokvel in Soweto were gathering to share money in a house when 5 robbers entered on Tuesday.
One of the robbers struck the owner of the house, a man in his 40s, in the head with a spade, killing him.
The stokvel of more than 10 members was then robbed of all its money.
The other incident occurred between two male members.
The two had a fight when the stokvel was meeting and one stabbed the other to death.
