The SA Policing Union has welcomed a new initiative to train all police members in basic detective work.
Sapu general-secretary Oscar Skommere says the re-enforcement of the detective and investigative arms of the police will improve service delivery.
He says this was long overdue as ordinary police members need comprehensive training to fight hardened criminals.
Police Ministry spokesperson, Zweli Minisi, says some new recruits have already started basic detective training.
