Seven more people were arrested for public violence in Blydeville near Lichtenburg, North West police said on Tuesday.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said four men and three women were arrested overnight, bringing the number of arrested people in Blydeville to 21.
Fourteen others were arrested on Friday after three trucks were torched and eight other vehicles were pelted with stones. They have been remanded in custody and were expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court next week on Tuesday, May 2.
A police Nyala was torched on Monday afternoon when the police responded to the protest.
Protesters also pelted the police with stones. They used corrugated iron sheets as shields to block rubber bullets.
Another violent protest flared up in Coligny on Tuesday morning, where a truck was reported to have been torched.
The protest started on Monday after a 12-year-old boy fell off a moving vehicle on Thursday. The boy was seriously injured and he later died in hospital. The vehicle was allegedly driven by a farmer.
Brigadier Mokgwabone said the police were monitoring protests in Blydeville, Coligny and Itsoseng where the situation was reported to be calm on Tuesday. No arrest has been made in Coligny and Itsoseng.
Police did not say when the seven protesters arrested in Blydeville were expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court.
