A prominent Free State farmer has been shot and killed in his house in Bloemfontein.
The deceased owns a farm just outside Bloemfontein, but also has a home in Fichardtpark in the city.
The family of the 45-year-old farmer and businessman, Lucas Mokoena, is reportedly still in disbelief following Tuesday night's incident.
The brother of the deceased, Motseki Mokoena, confirmed that his brother was murdered but that he could not provide more information as the police investigation is at a sensitive stage.
Neighbours say Lucas Mokoena was a quiet man who mostly kept to himself.
They said he was always friendly, though, and maintained a cordial relationship with those living around him. One neighbour reported hearing a gunshot during the night.
