Limpopo police have condemned the brutal killing of two men in a vigilante attack on Wednesday in a rural village outside Tzaneen.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said a third victim who managed to escape the angry mob, raised the alarm with the police.
He said villagers had mobilised against the men after accusing them of committing crimes in the area of Bokgaga Mokgolobotho Village.
"They then dragged the victims from their homes to the nearby mountains where they assaulted and burned them," he said.
Ledwaba said when police arrived on the scene the crowd had already dispersed and an assortment of objects, including stones, were found on the scene.
"Acts of vigilantism are condemned in the strongest possible terms they deserve. We therefore make an appeal to communities not to commit these acts, those responsible the law will have to deal harshly with them," said Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe.
SAPS will be investigating two counts of kidnapping and two counts of murder.
