National police commissioner Riah Phiyega has lamented the slaying of five police officers since she took office less than a month ago.
Speaking at a ceremony to the mark five year anniversary of Crimeline, general Phiyega said one slain police officer was one too many.
She said she spent time this past weekend with the family of the Eastern Cape policeman who was shot dead last week and this gave her a different picture of the seriousness of police killings.
General Phiyega said initiatives such as Crime Line, and the police's Crime Stop, were ways in which the public could help fight crime.
