SA National Parks says its bracing for an increase in poaching activity in national parks ahead of the festive season.
Sanparks rangers were involved in two skirmishes in Kruger National Park on Monday in which a suspected poacher was killed, four others arrested and one escaping into Mozambique.
Spokesperson, Reynold Thakhuli, says fire-arms, ammunition and poaching-related equipment, had been seized during the operations which also involved a Sanparks helicopter.
He says as far as they can tell, no animals were found that could be linked to the two incidents.
"We are currently surveing the area to check if there are any animals affected. The indications that we have is that they were only found with ammunition and a hunting rifle, but thy were not found with any horns. We are certainly doing checks to see if any animals have been killed so faar" Thakhuli said.
