The Civil Aviation Authority will be investigating a light plane crash in Centurion on Wednesday morning that claimed the life of the pilot.
Private ambulance service, Emer-G-Med, says on Facebook that their paramedics responded to the crash in the Knoppieslaagte area at around 8 am.
Paramedics found that a light fixed-wing aircraft had crashed into a river. "The pilot was the only occupant and was declared dead on the scene."
Meanwhile, CAA spokesperson, Sisa Majola, says their Accident and Incident Investigations Division was informed of an aircraft accident at the Eagles Creek Aerodrome next to the N14 highway towards Lanseria Aerodrome.
"There was one occupant onboard, who sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft sustained substantial damage," he said.
Majola added that AIID investigators were on-site to start the process of evidence collection and to gather more information "that will define the size and scope of the investigation as well as the timeframe for the issuance of a final report.
"Should a critical safety issue be identified, the Investigating team will then immediately notify relevant parties so that appropriate action can be taken," Majola said.
CAA will issue a preliminary report within 30 days.
