Petrol price hike in January


The price of petrol will increase by 39 cents, and diesel by 32 cents a litre on January 1.

The Department of Energy says the price of 93 octane unleaded petrol and lead replacement petrol will go up by 39c, and 95 octane by 38 cents a litre.

Both grades of diesel would go up by 32c, while the price of illuminating paraffin would increase by between 39 and 52 cents a litre respectively.

LP Gas will cost 56 cents a kilogram more.

Explaining the increase, the department said the average international prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review, November 29 to December
26.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate weakened to 10.3581 compared to 10.2121 during the previous period.

The fuel levy would increase to 10.96c/l from January 1.
