Two Chinese Nationals who were running an abalone operation in the Western Cape will soon be deported back to their home country and will never be allowed to return to South Africa.
The Priority Crimes Court in Khayelitsha has declared both 28-year-old Lin Liuyi and 45-year-old Yang GuiKang as "undesirable persons" effectively barring them from the country.
Liuyi and GuiKang were arrested by a special task force in August last year after police pounced on two of their properties where they found abalone being dried and cooked for export.
During the arrest, police seized abalone to the value of R2 million as well as processing equipment.
At their subsequent unsuccessful bail hearing, it was established that the duo was also in the country illegally.
The pair opted to enter into a plea agreement after realising that the evidence against them was insurmountable.
The court further declared that the accused are to be deported back to their country of origin after they serve an effective prison term of six months.
The two had assets to the value of R150 000 which were forfeited to the State.
