Two pensioners have been arrested and charged with perjury, fraud, theft and contravention of the Social Assistance Act.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Sindisiwe Seboka says 66-year-old Sarathamoney Sigamoney and 68-year-old Salamina Khoza appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court on Wednesday for having received the older persons' grant from SASSA while being sole directors of companies.
She says the companies they are directors for were awarded tenders, allegedly worth millions from SAPS.
Sigamoney is accused of defrauding SASSA of more than R123 000 and Khoza of R152 00 respectively.
Seboka says prior to submitting her application to the Department of Social Development in Gauteng, Sigamoney submitted a similar application in KwaZulu-Natal and her application was declined.
In 2017, Sigamoney allegedly told SASSA that she did not work for a period of 20 years and her application was approved.
Seboka says Khoza on the other hand has been arrested before on similar charges and received SASSA money while making R60 million from her three companies.
Both cases were postponed to next year.
