A 39-year-old male driver handed himself over to the Hartswater police after an alleged hit and run accident.
An unknown male pedestrian was killed and decapitated on the N18 about 10km outside Hartswater.
Police Spokesperson Sergio Kock says the accident happened at about 9.30 pm on Saturday night.
Police found a headless body at the scene on Sunday and started a search for the deceased's head.
Kock says the head was found on Tuesday afternoon in the nearby canal.
He says the information around the accident is still sketchy.
The driver will appear in court soon.
