One of South Africa's most versatile racing drivers and multiple South African National Champions, 44-year-old Curt Alchin, passed away after a tragic accident at Victory Raceway in Port Elizabeth on Saturday night.
He was awarded National Colours in 2004 for outstanding success in international Oval Racing.
Alchin was an Honorary Member of the Algoa Motorsport Club, awarded to him for his achievements and contributions to motorsport in Port Elizabeth.
Alchin slammed into a wall of the Victory Raceway on Schoenmakerskopr Road shortly after the start of an America V8 saloon car race and died on his way to St Georges Hospital.
Motor Sport South Africa said in a statement last night that it was mourning the loss of Alchin as well as that of a motorcycle circuit racing club competitor who died yesterday morning at an event at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria.
37-year-old Wim Pretorius was killed in an accident while participating in a Thunderbikes race.
He was the reigning B-class champion.
