Port Elizabeth police have issued a warning to the public to be alert when leaving a bank with large sums of cash.
This, after a 40-year-old man was followed from a bank by four men who robbed him of a substantial amount of money on Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that it is alleged that the victim was followed from a bank in Kempston Road by four armed men.
“The complainant alleged that after going to the bank, he went to the North End post office to renew his vehicle licence. As he exited the post office, he was accosted by four men, all armed with firearms,” Naidu said.
“He was robbed of a substantial amount of cash, two cell phones, his firearm as well as the keys to his vehicle. The suspects fled in a silver Golf 6 vehicle,” Naidu said.
Naidu said police are investigating a case of robbery.
She said police are urging people to always be vigilant when leaving banking institutions with large amounts of money.
“Take note of your surroundings and always check your mirrors when driving to make sure that you are not being followed. If you suspect anything sinister, drive to the nearest police station and immediately report your suspicion,” Colonel Naidu said.
