A 37 year old Port Elizabeth policeman appeared briefly in the St Albans Magistrate's Court today after his official vehicle was allegedly used in an armed robbery.
The Kabega Park police detective was arrested over the weekend and charged with using a vehicle without the owner's consent.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu told AlgoaFM News that Sergeant Paul Roelofse was released on warning and that the case was remanded to the 19th of September for further investigation.
His suspension is under consideration.
Police reported earlier that Roelofse's official police vehicle, which was not booked in when he signed off duty on Friday, was used in the robbery of three women in Motherwell the same night.
Four suspects were arrested but further investigation led investigators to a house in Bethelsdorp Extension 31 where the policeman was arrested, apparently in the company of known gangsters.
