Parts of Tshwane still in the dark of electrical pylons collapsed

The Tshwane Municipality welcomed the support of Electricity Minister, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, for its efforts to restore power to the Capital after several electrical pylons collapsed over the weekend.

Executive mayor, Cilliers Brink, said at yesterday's meeting, the Electricity Minister committed to working with Tshwane to help speed up efforts to restore power to all affected areas.

He said the pylons collapse and subsequent power outages was a massive job and the more assistance Tshwane receives, the sooner power could be restored to communities.

Tshwane says suspected vandalism may have contributed to the collapse of the electricity pylons.

“There was suspected vandalism of the pylons along the M4 east freeway,” said City Manager, Johann Mettler.

He said the City’s Energy and Electricity team worked with speed to complete the clearing of the freeway which was reopened for traffic around 5 pm yesterday (Tues).

Mettler meanwhile told Moneyweb that "there is clear evidence at least three of the pylons “were attacked by criminals who sought to vandalise them or to strip metal from these pylons."
