An off duty paramedic has been stabbed eight times by men who attempted to hijack his car in Vereeniging on Wednesday.
ER24 says Ryno Strydom stopped to assist a man who was lying in the road when the man suddenly jumped up and was joined by two other men who then dragged him to a nearby river where he was stabbed him several times.
Spokesperson, Werner Vermaak, says the men took his wallet and tried to steal his car but were unsuccessful.
He says Strydom, who was bleeding profusely, managed to drive himself to their headquarters where he collapsed.
Vermaak says the attack has raised concern for paramedics after an incident in Gugulethu when two of their paramedics were held at gunpoint.
