Minister welcomes downward trend in rhino poaching figures.

A Kruger National Park field ranger was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a rifle and ammunition. His arrest came on the same day that World Ranger Day was commemorated.

The death toll for the accident was revised up to six on Thursday morning from an initial five. "The sixth learner succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the nearby hospital," the provincial transport department said in a statement.

The South African National Parks (SANParks) on Wednesday commemorated World Ranger Day in honour of their fallen heroes who’ve been killed while in the line of duty. SANParks said the reported number of rangers killed worldwide stood at 140 in the past year, including 42 on the African continent and with two rangers killed in South Africa.
