South Africa's ambassador to Ukraine says more than 50 South Africans, mostly students, have reached out to them for help in getting to safety.
Speaking from Kyiv on Friday, Ambassador Andre Groenewald said they were working with their counterparts in Poland and Romania to assist citizens to leave.
He said they've agreed to send through the names and passport numbers of the South African students to the Polish authorities to help facilitate the border crossing for the students.
"I've also spoken to the Romanian Ambassarod who agreed that the students can apply for visas at the Romanian border," he said.
Groenewald also noted that the South African Embassy was assisting other Africans in Ukraine who don't have consular representation.
He said he dealt with about 84 of them on Friday as the scramble to leave Ukraine continued.
