The Council of Greater Oudtshoorn has declared a local state of disaster due to critical water shortages as the Raubenheimer Dam drops to 30% of capacity.
The Municipality said in a statement that the dam has enough water for the next 160 days.
The Oudtshoorn Municipality has urge residents to use water sparingly and report leakages and pipe breakages.
Mayor, Colan Sylvester, said they are working with the Eden District Municipality to address the water crisis in the greater Oudtshoorn area, adding that a local emergency committee to address the situation.
Sylvester said special attention would be given to the repair of leakages across the Greater Oudtshoorn.
