The Parole Review Board, which sat in Johannesburg on Monday, set aside the decision of the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Supervision and Parole Board to place Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision from 21 August.
Spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services, Manelisi Wolela says the Chairperson of the Parole Review Board, Judge Lucy Mailula, concurred with the concerns registered by Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha, that the Kgosi Mampuru Parole Board made the decision prematurely.
In reviewing the case, the PRB also directed that the profile of the offender be referred back to the prison's parole board for reconsideration.
Wolela says the PRB also directed that Pistorius be subjected to psychotherapy in order to address criminogenic factors of the crime he committed.
He says the Kgosi Mampuru parole board is expected to reconvene in due course to take forward and implement the decision of the Parole Review Board.
Pistorius was sentenced last year to five years in prison for killing Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day 2013.
