Oscar Pistorius' release on parole suspended

The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services says the decision to grant Oscar Pistorius parole and place him under house arrest has been suspended, until the parole review board has decided on the matter.

e-NCA reports that according to the ministry, Minister Michael Masutha received a petition on Monday from the Progressive Women’s’ Movement of South Africa, wherein they expressed their opposition to the imminent release of Pistorius.

The group asked the minister not to approve his release due to the parole board's insensitivity to release Pistorius during women's month.

Masutha said in a statement he had to satisfy himself that the correctional supervision and parole board decision and the process followed was in compliance with the law, regardless that the petition to release Pistorius could not be legally sustained.
