Oscar has no mental defect

Oscar Pistorius does not suffer from any mental defects that could influence his behaviour, according to state prosecutor Gerrie Nel.

He was summarising the findings of a panel of three psychiatrists and a clinical psychologist who observed Pistorius for 30 days at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital following a court order.
Nel told the Pretoria High Court on Monday morning at the resumption of the murder trial, that the panel had provided reports which were presented to court.

He said a mental disorder did not affect Pistorius' ability to distinguish between right or wrong.

Meanwhile, the defence called another witness to the stand this morning, Dr Gerry Versfeld, the orthopaedic surgeon who amputated Oscar Pistorius legs as a child.

He testified on Oscar’s impaired mobility, balance and pain when on his stumps.

During cross-examination Versfeld conceded to Nel that it was possible for Pistorius to walk on his stumps, gun in hand and fired shots.

The trial continues.
