Opposition parties call for Lynne Brown to be fired

Opposition parties have called for Public Enterprises Minister, Lynne Brown, to be fired.

This, after the Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkwebane, found Brown guilty of misleading Parliament by failing to disclose if there had been any contracts of engagement between Eskom and Gupta-linked, Trillian.

DA MP, Natasha Mazzone, said that the Public Protector has given President Cyril Ramaphosa 14 days to take action against the Minister after she found that Brown had violated the Executive Ethics Code.

“Minister Brown, in response to a DA parliamentary question, denied that there had been an agreement between Eskom and Trillian,” said Mazzone.

“However, AmaBhungane, later established that either Trillian or a subsidiary company had, at the time of the reply, already invoiced Eskom for R266 million,” she said.

Mazzone said if the President is truly committed to building a government that is beyond reproach, he must immediately remove anyone who is found guilty of unethical behaviour from his Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Congress of the People also called on President Ramaphosa to act decisively and fire Brown.

“If President Ramaphosa is an ethical leader who believes in good and clean governance, he will summarily dismiss Lynne Brown as Minister Public Enterprises and immediately eject her from his executive,” said Cope’s Mosioua Lekota.

“South Africa can no longer afford to have Ministers who lie to the People’s Assembly, are untruthful, and act unethically and contra to the interests of South Africa,” he said.
