Opposition leaders speak about divorce of DA and Agang SA

The partnership between the Democratic Alliance and Agang SA fell victim to party politics.

That's according to Agang leader, Mamphela Ramphele, who said some (people) will not transcend party politics.

She was addressing a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday, ahead of a scheduled briefing by DA leader, Helen Zille.

"The last week has demonstrated that, for some, this new way of thinking about our future will be hard to achieve right now." said Ramphele

On Sunday, Zille accused Ramphele of reneging on their agreement for her to stand as the DA's presidential candidate in the upcoming election.

Ramphele said since the announcement she had learnt to listen to her members.

Meanwhile, DA leader Helen Zille, said her alliance with Ramphele had been a mistake.

She said her intention was always to build an alternative government for South Africa.

Zille said her move with the Agang SA leader was a calculated risk but they're now cutting their losses.
