The Department of Justice and Correctional Services says one of Anni Dewani's killers, Xolile Mngeni has died.
Minister Michael Masutha says he died while the monitoring of his medical condition was underway.
Mngeni, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Anni Dewani, passed away yesterday afternoon whilst in custody at the Goodwood Correctional Centre hospital in Cape Town.
He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011, and was reportedly admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital in June.
The medical parole advisory board recommended Mngeni be placed on medical parole, but in July, Masutha denied him this.
Masutha said this was on the grounds that there were no appropriate arrangements for Mngeni's supervision, care and treatment in the community into which he would be released.
