An off-duty policeman was one of three people wounded in a fatal shooting incident in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the incident happened in 2nd Avenue in Windvogel.
“It is alleged that at about 21:00 last night, a group of males were talking and drinking in 2nd Street in Windvogel when a white LDV bakkie approached them. According to police information, the vehicle stopped next to the group, the passenger alighted and started firing at them,” Naidu said.
“David Kokora (26), a Dustlife gang member and Aartjie Kok (23) were fatally wounded while three other persons, aged 23, 29 and 39 sustained injuries. Among the injured was an off-duty policeman,” she said.
The suspect is unknown and police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
Mount Road police Cluster Commander, Major-General Funeka Siganga, is urging the communities in the Northern areas not to keep quiet and to work with the police in eradicating violent crimes that is plaguing the communities.
“The community are the ‘eyes and ears’ of the police and every information that is given to us will be investigated,” added General Siganga.
