A man from North West who allegedly built a bomb to kill his family has been arrested and will remain in custody for now.
The 58-year-old Tau Lekoa, who is a mineworker, appeared in the Orkney Magistrates court on Wednesday after police received information that he was in possession of a large number of explosives.
Police Spokesperson Thlangelani Rikhotso says Lekoa allegedly built the device himself and then paid a man R10 000 to bomb his family.
She says members of the Hawks were led to an empty shack where explosives, shock tube starters and nitro cords, with an estimated value of one million rands, was found.
Lekoa was arrested and charged with the illegal possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit murder.
His next court appearance is on the 8th of August when he is expected to apply for bail.
Rikhotso says the man who was allegedly offered the R10 000 will turn State witness.
