NW councillor in court on sex charges

File

The case against a Municipal councillor facing several rape and other charges was postponed in the Orkney Magistrates Court on Tuesday for legal representation.

The National Prosecuting Authority's Henry Mamothame says 43-year-old Tebogo Sepale is a Councillor in the Matlosana Local Municipality in North West.

He said the accused requested a week to appoint a private attorney to represent him and he will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.

“Sepale is facing eleven provisional charges, two for statutory rape, three for the violation of a child with consent, one for manufacturing pornographic material, four for rape and one for sexual intimidation,” he said

Mamothame said the state was not ruling out the possibility of more charges being added.

He said the Councillor is accused of allegedly sharing “a nude picture of his private parts with the complainant,” while in a second instance, two counts of statutory rape were laid against him earlier this month by the parents of two boys aged 15 and 17.

Mamothame says the matter was postponed to 17 May.
