A teenager is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrates' Court in Soweto on Monday where he will be charged with murder and attempted murder.
The 17-year-old boy was a patient at a hospital in Soweto and allegedly stabbed two elderly patients who were in the same ward as him.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo says the teenager stabbed an 84-year-old who succumbed to his injuries as well as a 72-year-old who survived the attack.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Captain Masondo says the teenager was arrested on Friday and statements must still be obtained from the nurses on duty who were too shocked and traumatised to speak to the police.
