Numsa to announce wage decision

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa will hold a Media Briefing on Sunday afternoon to announce its National Executive Committee's decision on a wage offer in the ongoing Engineering and Metals sector strike.

Numsa says in a statement the media will be addressed by Secretary-general, Irvin Jim.

The Union said on Friday it consulted its members on the revised offer from the metal and engineering employers.

Numsa wants a 12% wage increase, a ban on labour brokers, and a R1 000 housing allowance in a one-year bargaining agreement.

Numsa's NEC met on Wednesday to receive feedback following negotiations facilitated by the department of labour.

The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of SA has tabled a three-year wage offer of between eight and 10 percent for different levels of workers in the first year.
