The National Sea Rescue Institute said it was ready to respond to emergencies during the countrywide lockdown starting at midnight on Thursday.
“All precautions and protocols as directed by the Department of Health are being adhered to during rescue operations and this includes operations involving patient evacuations off ships,” said spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.
He said they were also appealing to the public to remain safe during this time.
“Water-related emergencies at home may include something as simple as a child falling into a bucket of water and drowning.”
“Precautions should be applied to maintain home safety,” Lambinon added.
He also appealed to the public to continue to support the NSRI, which relies on donations as a Non-Profit Organisation by visiting their website https://www.nsri.org.za/funding/donate/.
