A 68-year old farmer from Northwest that was shot during an armed robbery at the Potchefstroom Abattoir this morning, has died in a Johannesburg hospital.
Agri Potchefstroom chairperson, Jannie Keet, says Koos van der Leeuw, a member of Agri Northwest, was airlifted by emergency services shortly after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Police spokesperson, Pelonomi Makau, says a manhunt has been launched for four men driving a blue Subaru.
She says Van der Leeuw accompanied by his wife were at the abattoir to meet a man from Krugersdorp.
They allegedly met every week for a cash transaction.
According to her one of the robbers approached the Krugersdorp-man and demanded money.
Four shots were allegedly fired at Van der Leeuw.
Makau says the robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone.
Police are investigation a case of murder and robbery.
