The Department of International Relations says it is liaising with the South African embassy in Tunisia to determine if any South Africans were wounded or killed in an attack at a museum.
Department spokesperson, Clayson Monyela says they are still waiting for reports, and at this point they are not able to confirm if there were South Africans involved in the attack,.
Two gunmen killed 17 foreign tourists and two Tunisians at the Bardo museum on Thursday.
Monyela says they are not sure about the involvement of any South Africans at this stage.
"We will confirm the citizenship status of the victims through identifying their passports. We will then contact the next of kin. Once that is confirmed we will then offer consular assistance to ensure that the body or bodies are returned to SA" he said
