NMB Metro keeps close eye on listeriosis outbreak

Two cases of meningitis in Nelson Mandela Bay have been linked to the national listeriosis disease outbreak.

While the disease is treatable and preventable, the recent outbreak has resulted in an unprecedented number of cases, some of which have been fatal.

National Government is leading the disease control operation, in partnership with the World Health Organisation and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says in a statement that with only two recorded cases in the Metro, the situation here is stable.

However, every resident is asked to take extra care by following good hygiene practices - both personal - and when it comes to handling food.

Anyone experiencing flu like symptoms, diarrhoea, fever, septicaemia or severe headaches is advised to visit their nearest doctor or hospital immediately.
