Nine men were killed on Friday afternoon after they were attacked and assaulted in Matholesville in Roodepoort.
ER24 said paramedics, along with Provincial Services, arrived on the scene after 4 pm to find several bodies lying in the road.
"Medics assessed the men and found that eight had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for them and they were later declared dead," said spokesperson Russel Meiring.
He said two other men were found with several injuries and were in a critical condition.
Meiring said one of the men died later in hospital.
"The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations," he said.
