Nine people have died and six others seriously injured in a horrific taxi accident in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg on Thursday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson, Chris Botha, says the scene was consistent with a very high speed crash.
Botha says when paramedics arrived on scene they found that several people had been ejected from the overturned taxi early in the morning.
"The taxi actually veered off the road and collided into on of these concrete bus-shelters. With the impact the entire taxi was ripped apart, except for three people who were still trapped in the wreckage. The others were all ejected and found over quite a large area with accident debris"
Botha said the crash victims had suffered severe injuries, with two in critical condition and four with serious injuries.
He said paramedics from various services assisted at the scene.
