A 26-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly dumping her newborn baby at a dump site in Wells Estate.
Police Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says an alert community member discovered the naked little boy at about 9 am on Wednesday morning, after hearing a baby cry.
He says when police arrived on the scene they followed a blood trail and afterbirth that lead them to a house in Kolisi street.
Beetge says the mother was not home at the time wat was arrested at a nearby house where she was hiding.
The baby is currently receiving medical attention and will be transferred to the Dora Nginza Hospital later on Thursday.
The mother will appear in the Motherwell Magistrates court on Friday and will face a charge of attempted murder and child abandonment.
Beetge says the boy is in urgent need of newborn warm clothing and diapers and anybody who can help can bring their donations to the Swartkops police station.
