A new pipeline will be connected in Knysna this week to allow more water to be pumped from the Knysna and Gouna Rivers.
The municipality said in a statement that the Charlesford pipeline construction is one of several short-term interventions in place to assist with the current water scarcity in Knysna.
The next phase of the project will see six kilometres of the pipeline completed at a cost of R32 million.
Municipal spokesperson Chumisa Kalawe said the switch-over should not affect the water supply.
Kalawe said Knysna residents should, however, be vigilant during the switch-over period and continue to use water sparingly.
