Newly appointed National Director of Public Prosecution, Shaun Abrahams, is officially in the hot seat.
Justice Minister Micheal Masutha on Tuesday welcomed Abrahams as the new head of the NPA.
Abrahams replaces Mxolisi Nxasana, who resigned in June after an inquiry into his fitness to hold office was shelved at the eleventh hour.
Nxasana is the latest in a string of National Prosecuting Authority heads who failed to conclude their terms.
Speaking to the media Abrahams pledged to lead the NPA without fear or favour.
He was also hopeful about completing his full term as National Director of Public Prosecutions.
"I can only aspire to fullfil my full term. I am bound by the Constitution and the rule of law," he said.
Responding to a question about how he will protect himself from political interference, Abrahams said he was a lawyer and an officer of the court.
"There are many factors that one takes into consideration when you look at matters but ultimately we are bound by the Constitution and the rule of law," he said.
