The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) will conduct two weeks of public hearings in all nine provinces on Eskom’s application for a 16% increase for each of the next five years.
The public hearings will be held from January 15 to 31 but no dates are yet available for when the Regulator will visit the Eastern Cape while the closing date for written comments on the application is November 20.
The tentative date for NERSA to announce its decision on the application is February 28.
In terms of its multi-year budget projections that must still be approved by Council, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has made provision for an average increase of 13% in electricity tariffs for each of the next three years.
