Murdered baby Daniel’s* mom denied bail

The mother of little baby Daniel, whose step-father was convicted of his murder, has been denied bail in a Gauteng court.

The woman will now remain in custody until sentencing proceedings get underway on 21 January.

According to the lobby group, Women and Men Against Child Abuse, the court found that she had violated her bail conditions when her two other children were taken out of a place of safety for a day visit last month.

WMACA said earlier that it was disappointed that the woman had only been convicted of child abuse and negligence and not murder, while Daniel’s* step-dad was found guilty of his murder.

Evidence before the court had revealed that the little boy had suffered horrific injuries which included a broken elbow and femur, injured ribs and second-degree burns to 60% of his body.

He died of his injuries in June 2016.
